 State Benefits

The state pays for the employee's health insurance. Other optional insurance benefits include dental coverage, disability coverage, term life and accidental death and dismemberment. Employees earn 96 hours of sick leave each year of state service, and will earn a minimum of 96 hours a year of annual leave.

The state requires participation in the retirement program and upon vesting matches employees' contributions to their member services account. State insurance and retirement programs are administered by the Employees Retirement System of Texas (ERS). Supplemental retirement plans are also available under a Deferred Compensation Plan (457) and Texa$aver (401K).
