The following
information is being provided to aid applicants in the completion of their
applications. It is not an exhaustive list and there is no guarantee that only the items listed below will be required of
any specific applicant.
1)
Eligibility Requirements
a)
US/Canadian
Graduates
·
One
year of graduate medical training in the United States or Canada in an ACGME or
AOA accredited program, or a board approved fellowship.
b)
International
Graduates
·
Three
years of graduate medical training in the United States or Canada in an ACGME
or AOA accredited program, or a board approved fellowship, or
·
At
least two years of graduate medical training in the U.S. or Canada that was ACGME
or AOA accredited or a board approved fellowship, AND, at least one year of graduate
medical training outside the U.S. or Canada that was approved for advanced
standing by an ABMS or BOS specialty board.
a)
Continuous and Progressive Training
Continuous
– 12 month periods of uninterrupted postgraduate training with no
absences greater than 21 days, unless such absences have been approved by the
training program
Progressive
– three continuous years of postgraduate training in the United States or
Canada, progressive in nature and acceptable for specialty board certification
in one specialty area
2)
Documentation
It is advisable to collect all
required documentation and submit it in one packet. However we understand that
there are some examination entities and state medical boards that will not send
the documents to applicants and will only send them directly to the TMB.
a)
Applicants using FCVS and training completed
more than 5 years ago – the FCVS verified training is acceptable.
b)
Applicants not using FCVS and training
completed more than 5 years ago – copies of certificates of training completion are acceptable.
c)
Applicants whose training was completed less
than 5 years ago – Form Ls from every US/Canadian training program with which the applicants
were affiliated are required.
