The TMB is posting the following Supplemental Notice per Tex. Gov. 551.0411; 551.045; and 551.125.

Due to adverse weather conditions in West and North Texas, namely winter storms including snow and/or freezingrain, the convening of a quorum is difficult or impossible; therefore, these affected board members may attend by telephone for the purposes of a quorum.  The meeting itself will be open to the public at 333 Guadalupe Tower 2, Suite 225, Austin, TX  78701.

In the event of adverse weather conditions resulting in the closure of the Austin Independent School District (AISD), the Texas Medical Board offices in Austin, Texas will be closed as well. In the event of TMB’s closure, the Board will proceed with its meeting by telephone conference call starting at the posted time of 8:00 a.m.  The normal location for the meeting is 333 Guadalupe Tower 2, Suite 225, Austin, TX 78701; however, due to adverse weather conditions the meeting will proceed and the public may attend by telephone.

In the event of adverse weather conditions resulting in the delay of the opening of the Austin Independent School District (AISD), the opening of the Texas Medical Board offices in Austin, Texas will coincide with the AISD opening. The TMB Board meeting scheduled for Friday, February 7, 2014 will convene at the time the TMB offices open. The meeting will be held at 333 Guadalupe, Tower 2, Suite 225, Austin, TX 78701, as previously noticed.

The urgent public necessity that requires the meeting of TMB to go forward is to provide protection of the public and patient safety through board’s formal consideration and approval of remedial plans and disciplinary orders concerning physicians who have been determined to have violated the Medical Practice Act and/or Board rules.  There are several Final Orders being considered that are a result of a contested case hearing where an Administrative Law Judge has conclusively determined a violation Medical Practice Act and/or Board rules has occurred.  In addition, there are several hundred physicians and a number of other healthcare providers awaiting approval of their license applications and/or certifications to allow them to practice medicine in the state.
