Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) is a security measure that requires users to provide two or more verification factors in order to access an account. Instead of relying solely on a password (which can be stolen, guessed, or reused), MFA adds an additional layer of security through a verified phone, email, or security question. This greatly reduces the chances of unauthorized access, even if login credentials are compromised.

MFA is being introduced as part of a broader security enhancement initiative to help prevent potential account-related incidents within MyTMB. The first phase of the rollout will enable MFA for all users with verified phone numbers on file. Users with missing information, such as a phone number, email, or security questions, will be prompted to complete these items before continuing to the dashboard. This ensures reliable contact points for system verification and secure account recovery.

This implementation aligns MyTMB with industry-standard security practices, strengthens protection against fraud, and helps safeguard personal and licensing information. Most users are already familiar with MFA from banking, email, and other services. The additional step takes only a few seconds while significantly improving system security.
