COMING SOON - New Online JP Exam & Study Guide

Beginning September 1, 2019, applicants will no longer have to take the in-person Texas Medical Jurisprudence (JP) Exam. New JP exams and updated study guides will now be available online to applicants.


August 23, 2019, is the last day Physician, Physician Assistant and Acupuncturist applicants can take the in-person JP exams through its current vendor, PearsonVue.


In accordance with law passed by the 84th Legislature (SB 202), all Respiratory Care Practitioner, Medical Radiologic Technologist, Limited Medical Radiologic Technologist, and Non-Certified Radiologic Technician applicants who apply after August 31, 2019, will also now be required to successfully pass the JP exam.



Accessing the New JP Exams & Study Guides

The JP exam will be available for applicants to take online through their “My TMB” account. Only applicants with active, pending applications will be able to schedule an appointment for the exam. If you have a pending application and have not set up a My TMB account, please do so through the TMB website - https://sso.tmb.state.tx.us/Login.aspx.

Pending applicants will be sent specific instructions on how to schedule an appointment for the new online exam once it is available.

Applicants must pass with a score of 75 or better and will have unlimited attempts to do so. The fee for the JP exam will be $34 per attempt. The JP exam is administered through a third party vendor and missed online appointments will result in forfeiture of the fee.  

Applicants may choose to purchase a study guide which will also be available through the My TMB portal.
