Acupuncture Board Committees

Discipline and Ethics Committee

The Discipline and Ethics Committee drafts and reviews proposed rules regarding the discipline of acupuncturists; oversees the disciplinary process and gives guidance to the acupuncture board and staff; monitors the effectiveness, appropriateness, and timeliness of the disciplinary process; makes recommendations regarding resolution and disposition of specific cases and approves, adopts, modifies, or rejects recommendations from staff or representatives of the acupuncture board regarding actions to be taken on pending cases. Approves dismissals of complaints and closure of investigations; drafts and reviews proposed ethics guidelines and rules for the practice of acupuncture, and makes recommendations to the acupuncture board regarding the adoption of such ethics guidelines and rules; makes recommendations to the acupuncture board and staff regarding policies, priorities, budget, and any other matters related to the disciplinary process.

Education Committee

This committee drafts and proposes rules regarding educational requirements for licensure in Texas and makes recommendations to the acupuncture board regarding changes or implementation of such rules; drafts and proposes rules regarding training required for licensure in Texas and makes recommendations to the acupuncture board regarding changes or implementation of such rules; drafts and proposes rules regarding tutorial program requirements for licensure in Texas and makes recommendations to the acupuncture board regarding changes or implementation of such rules; drafts and proposes rules regarding continuing education requirements for renewal of a Texas license and makes recommendations to the acupuncture board regarding changes or implementation of such rules; drafts and proposes rules regarding educational requirements for degrees granted upon graduation in Texas and makes recommendations to the acupuncture board regarding changes or implementation of such rules; consults with the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board regarding educational requirements for schools of acupuncture, oversight responsibilities of each entity, degrees which may be offered by schools of acupuncture; maintains communication with acupuncture schools; plans and makes visits to acupuncture schools at specified intervals, with the goal of promoting opportunities to meet with the students so they may become aware of the board and its functions; develops information regarding foreign acupuncture schools in the areas of curriculum, faculty, facilities, academic resources, and performance of graduates; drafts and proposes rules which would set the requirements for degree programs in acupuncture; is available for assistance with problems relating to acupuncture school issues which may arise within the purview of the board; offers assistance to the Licensure Committee in determining eligibility of graduates of foreign acupuncture schools for licensure; studies and makes recommendations regarding documentation and verification of records from foreign acupuncture schools; makes recommendations to the acupuncture board regarding matters brought to the attention of the Education Committee.

Licensure Committee

This committee drafts and reviews proposed rules regarding licensure; makes recommendations to the acupuncture board regarding changes or implementation of such rules; drafts and reviews proposed application forms for licensure; makes recommendations to the acupuncture board regarding changes or implementation of such rules; oversees the application process for licensure; receives and reviews applications for licensure in the event the eligibility for licensure of an applicant is in question; presents the results of reviews of applications for licensure and makes recommendations to the acupuncture board regarding licensure of applicants whose eligibility is in question; oversees and makes recommendations to the acupuncture board regarding any aspect of the examination process including the approval of an appropriate licensure examination and the administration of such an examination; drafts and reviews proposed rules regarding any aspect of the examination.
